Semler Scientific Invests Heavily in Bitcoin, Eyes $150 Million Fund
Illustrating the growing mainstream acceptance of cryptocurrencies in traditional financial strategies, Semler Scientific, a healthcare technology firm listed on Nasdaq, has revealed its acquisition of 247 Bitcoin (BTC), valued at $17 million.
This acquisition forms part of Semler’s overarching strategy to enhance its digital asset portfolio. This comes with plans to secure an additional $150 million to bolster its position in the king coin.
Following its recent acquisition, Semler Scientific now possesses a substantial Bitcoin reserve of 828 BTC. It procured this at a combined cost of $57 million. With Bitcoin’s current market valuation, Semler’s Bitcoin portfolio is estimated at an impressive $59 million, showcasing the notable returns the company has generated from this non-traditional asset class.

CEO Doug Murphy-Chutorian reaffirmed Semler’s steadfast commitment to its dual objectives of expanding its healthcare operations and harnessing Bitcoin’s potential as a long-term investment. Murphy-Chutorian reiterated Semler’s intent to continue acquiring Bitcoins using available cash.
In the filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, Semler outlined its rationale for prioritizing BTC as an investment asset. The company views Bitcoin as a unique asset class with inherent qualities. The filing further read,
“We believe it has unique characteristics as a scarce and finite asset that can serve as a reasonable inflation hedge and safe haven amid global instability.”
