BRICS: India & Iran Announce Increased Cooperation to Start 2024

In a significant moment for the newly expanded BRICS alliance, both India and Iran have announced increased cooperation to start in 2024. Indeed, the two countries have agreed to expand their partnership within both the economic alliance and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), reports have stated.

Both Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian and Indian counterpart Subrahmanyam Jaishankar met to announce increased bilateral ties within the framework of both organizations. Moreover, those conversations are expected to be implemented on a long-term basis.

India and Iran Kick Off 2024 With Expanded Cooperation

Just a few weeks into the new year, the BRICS alliance has embraced greater cooperation in its newly expanded form. Indeed, the bloc invited six nations to join its ranks at its 2023 annual summit. The move was made official at the start of the year. Subsequently, five of those countries are expected to join.

Subsequently, unilateral partnerships wasted no time between the new and old BRICS members, as India and Iran announced increased partnerships in 2024. Moreover, both nations expressed commitment to growing bilateral cooperation within the framework of both BRICS and SCO.

The two parties’ foreign ministers had spoken earlier in discussions preceding the agreement. Indeed, the two talked about the importance of greater partnerships. Ultimately, they agreed to expand that cooperation between the two entities.

The report highlights the North-South International transport corridor and Iran’s Chabahar port. Specifically, these two ideas were noted as crucial in their further engagements. As the BRICS expansion was already 2023’s most important geopolitical development, agreements like these are proving why.
